Jacqueline Fernandez grew up in Bahrain, Manama. She is Sri Lankan and comes from an ethnically diverse background. Jacqueline's dad Elroy Fernandez is a Sri Lankan. She has two younger brothers as well as an older sister. Her parents relocated to Bahrain in the late 1980s as a result of the Lankan civil unrest and hence she was born and raised in Bahrain. After finishing school in Bahrain she won the Scholarship at University of Sydney to pursue a Media and Communications Degree in Sydney, Australia. She went to an institute called the Berlitz School of Foreign Languages, which helped her improve on French, Arabic and Spanish. In 2006, she was crowned Miss Sri Lanka. Miss Sri Lanka for Miss Universe 2006 in March 2006. She also participated in Miss Universe 2006. Following her win of the Miss Sri Lanka title in 2006, she took on the world of television and anchored a show about Sri Lanka's business, called Lanka Business Report. Padukone's father is badminton-player Prakash Padukone. Padukone has had a childhood in Copenhagen and Bangalore. As a teenager Padukone was a participant in numerous national badminton tournaments. She eventually gave up her passion for the game when she decided to pursue a career as a professional model. Padukone is from Mangalorean origin and her native language is Konkani. Padukone is located in the Kundapura Taluk of Karnataka's Udupi District. Prakash Padukone has retired as an internationally renowned badminton athlete Her mother, on the other hand, also works as a travel advisor.
